Flagship Project overview

The main goal of this Flagship Project is to launch a multilateral research programme supported by a number of coalition members to tackle 20 of the 50 Innovation Priorities ranked as most urgent in the GPFM Joint Roadmap. This Flagship Project intends to increase opportunities for international cooperation by aligning national R&I sources, sharing R&I national results of transnational relevance, and launching calls at regional and international level.

To make this possible, FP2 will secure R&I funding, made available by governments and energy funding agencies involved, to support MI members’ national, regional and international research activities on the identified Innovation Priorities. The launch of a multilateral research programme will drive collaboration among participating Mission members.

This flagship project will ensure that the Mission remains focused on issues beyond technology barriers such as market design, regulatory framework, etc., that can play an important role in unlocking innovative solutions.

Joint GPFM-CETPartnership Call Module

As an important milestone towards the implementation of the FP2, the Mission developed and strengthened cooperation with CETPartnership through the joint call module 2023 “Energy system flexibility: renewables production, storage and system integration” focusing on 11 selected Innovation Priorities as proposed by the GPFM. After the successful joint call module 2023, the GPFM and the CETPartnership agreed to launch a joint call module 2024, aiming to increase opportunities for international cooperation and boost the GPFM FP2 “Multilateral Research Programme” implementation, focusing on transnationality and involvement of extra-EU countries. This joint call module, in line with the 2023 one will address key innovation priorities as identified by the GPFM – CETPartnership joint effort among the 100 highlighted in the GPFM Roadmap.      

The new call module will be launched in Q3 2024, aiming for similar or better results then the 2023 joint call module. By the beginning of 2025, the projects funded through the joint call module 2023 will already be underway and for the call module 2024 the full proposal submission phase will be open.
